Frequently Asked Questions

What's our style, cinematic, documentary, or a mix of both?

We film and edit with a combination of cinematic and documentary styles. Like any good documentary, our video footage is comprised of natural yet beautifully composed shots. We have a fly-on-the-wall mentality: it is our job to document the events as they unfold, not to create them. However, we also film in a widescreen format, which creates a cinematic feel and in the editing room, we use music, fades, and subtle techniques to create a cinematic experience with our Highlight Movies.

Have we done many weddings before?

Reel Life Productions has only been filming weddings since 2005 and has filmed over 100 weddings (as of the end of 2009). Our team has been filming, directing, editing, and producing film for a decade. We are not your traditional wedding videographer. Instead we offer a unique and modern approach to wedding videography that comes from years of experience filming many kinds of events and producing many kinds of films.

How do we coordinate with a wedding photographer? Have we worked with your photographer before?

We are happy to offer special packages with KPO Photo, which streamlines the process for you. However, if you prefer another photographer, we will gladly coordinate with them, but since our style is to fade into the background, we work very well with all kinds of photographers with very little coordination. Our style of video looks best with photojournalist and documentary-style photography, but any high quality photography will look good in your Highlight Movie, should you choose to get one. Let us know who is shooting your photographs and we can let you know if we have worked with them before. Just a few of the photogaphers we have worked with other than KPO Photo are Azul Photography, John Rosenthal Photography, Kevin Milz Photography, Martha Manning Photography, Tamara Lackey Photography, and whitebox weddings.

Have we ever shot a wedding at your ceremony and/or reception site?

Because we have only been filming wedding for a couple years, we have not filmed at every site yet. However, we scout out new sites prior to your event and speak with coordinators at your venue if they are available. Also, our videographers come well prepared for all kinds of contingencies so we can handle unexpected issues, weather, light, etc. Let us know where your event is taking place and we will let you know if we have filmed there before. Just a few of the venues where we have filmed multiple times before are: Fearrington Village, The Carolina Inn, The Washington Duke Inn, and Duke Chapel.

Are we a member of any national or local videography associations?

We are members of the National Association of Professional Wedding Videographers (NAPWV), a specialized, national directory, exclusively featuring wedding videographers.

How many other weddings will we be doing on your wedding day or weekend?

We have two lead videographers so can shoot up to two events per day. Each videographer only shoots one event per day, so you will be their one and only focus on the day or days of filming.

What types of cameras, tapes, and microphones will we use?

We film with Panasonic AG-DVX 100A and 100B video cameras, which have the specialized 24p frame rate, allowing us to film footage that simulates the vivid colors and the soft glow of hollywood film. We film using only DV (digital video). We use wireless lavalier microphones we can clip to the groom or minister for quality audio during the ceremony. For an additional charge, we can shoot in HD. Ask us about this option if you are interested.

What type of editing equipment do we use?

We edit with Adobe Premiere Pro, a professional, real-time, nonlinear video editing software for digital video. We also use Adobe After Effects to create innovative motion graphics when needed. Finally, we use Adobe Encore, a professional DVD authoring software, which allows us to create custom and multi-level menus in our DVDs.

How bright are the lights we use?

We use on-camera lights for night-time receptions only when needed. The lights are small and non-intrusive. We can film without on-camera lights at your request.

How do we charge for services?

We believe you should get exactly what you want and nothing you don't. So we don't offer complex packages; instead we offer an a-la-carte menu, which allows you to build your own package based on your unique wedding and ideas.
